Morning Session (3 hours) – Changes in the Plumbing code, and
the Inspector’s School of Plumbing

Kenny Hart, ACI – Master Plumber, Mechanical Contractor, and Nationally Recognized Speaker and Presenter is a second-generation Master Plumber and Mechanical Contractor, with more than 35 years of experience in the mechanical fields. Kenny is a contributing editor to the ASHI@HOME inspector training program, has authored articles for the ASHI Reporter, Journal of Light Construction and Drinking Water and Backflow Prevention, and has contributed to Popular Mechanic. Kenny has served on ASHI’s Membership and Standards Committees, and has chaired the ASHI Technical Committee.

Afternoon Session (3 hours) – The How, When, and Why Underlying Today’s NEC; and
Wiring Hazards that all Home Inspectors Must be Able to Recognize!

David Shapiro – Licensed Master Electrician (Maryland and Virginia), consultant, electrical forensics expert, and electrical safety expert extraordinaire. David is certified through the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (plans reviewer and inspector), and is active in the American Council on Electrical Safety. David has three books – Old Electrical Wiring: Maintenance & Retrofit (McGraw-Hill); the second edition – Old Electrical Wiring: Evaluating, Repairing, and Upgrading Dated Systems; Your Old Wiring (McGraw-Hill); and co-authored a third book – Behind the Code, the how, when, and why underlying today’s NEC. David has also published numerous articles in Fine Homebuilding, New England Builder, Practical Homeowner, and The Washington Post.

Lunch Session (1 hour) – Maryland Standards of Practice and Maryland Code of Ethics

JD Grewell, ACI – A Home Inspector Industry Member Commissioner on the Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers and Home Inspectors, and a member of the ASHI Board of Directors. Many licensed home inspectors in Maryland are unaware that there is a state regulation mandating all inspectors comply with the Maryland Standards of Practice and Maryland Code of Ethics. Most inspectors are also unaware that they are now required to acquire at least 30 hours of continuing education every license cycle. MAC-ASHI will be providing a session during the lunch period reviewing the Standards and Ethics.

This one-day seminar is approved for 7 ASHI CE credits.
